Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to THE HAZARD OF BEING SEVERELY BURNED BY HOT FORCED AIR
WITH TEMPERATURES IN EXCESS OF 700 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT:
a)Rework Station, on or about 12/17/2002, Employees were exposed to hot
forced air with temperatures in excess of 700 degrees fahrenheit when
changing or replacing parts which resulted in an employee being seriously
injured.
Among other methods, several feasible and acceptable abatement methods to
correct
this hazard are to:
1.When turning off the power switch allow the air to stop blowing prior to
replacing any parts.
2.Allow the unit to cool down to room temperature prior to replacing any
parts.
3.Ensure that all the manufacturer's safety requirements are outlined in
the
equipment operation procedure and that employees are properly trained in
accordance with the manufacturer's specifications and safety procedures as
outlined on page 2 and page 10 of the HAKKO 702 Rework System
Instruction Manual.
