recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to

were exposed to the hazard of being struck-by falling boxes/packages:
a)In the primary sort area, on or about 03/20/03:  Specifically, High
Volume
Direct conveyor, weak side shoot above PD8-7B, packages were not prevented
from falling off of conveyors/shoots onto walking/working areas.
ABATEMENT NOTES:
AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD
TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO:
1)Control conveyors/shoots and loading of conveyors/shoots so that
packages/boxes do not pile up and overflow the sides of the
conveyors/shoots.
2)Ensure that all conveyors/shoots, especially those above or adjacent to
walking/working surfaces, have adequate side protection to prevent
packages/boxes from falling.
3)Follow the requirements set forth by the American National Safety
Institute's
Safety Standards for Conveyors and Related Equipment (ANSI B20.1-1976),
section 5.09.2.3.
Abatement certification must be submitted for this item.
