General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to PVC pipe used to transport compressed air. "Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to:" 1. Only use material with shatter resistance properties. (Reference Plastic Pipe Institute document). 2. Follow manufacturer recommendation on application. On or about January 9, 2003, at 5972 Suwanee Dam Road, Buford, GA: Employees were exposed to hazards, while performing wood working tasks utilizing compressed air, which was being distributed throughout the shop by PVC lines. Compressed air pressure was recorded as 200 PSI at the air compressor.
