Labor and Employment Article, Section 5-104(a), Annotated Code of Maryland: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a)Date of Violation:08/01/01 Location:1st Floor Equipment:Time Saver Speed Belt Sander, Model #137-1HDM, Serial #11770 Condition:The employer was using a dry type collector to collect and store particles of aluminum generated during sanding and had a dry dust collector located inside the building, the dust collection system was not bonded and grounded, and there was no inert material such as dry sand provided to mix with the aluminum dust. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard would be to locate the dust collector outside the building, bond and ground the dust collection system, and provide dry sand to mix with the aluminum dust. (b)Date of Violation:08/01/01 Location:1st Floor Equipment:Drum Collector Condition:The employer was using a drum collector with a fabric bag to collect and store particles of aluminum generated during buffing and had a dry dust collector located inside the building, the dust collection system was not bonded and grounded, and there was no inert material such as dry sand provided to mix with the aluminum dust. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard would be to locate the dust collector outside the building, bond and ground the dust collection system, and provide dry sand to mix with the aluminum dust. Abatement documentation (photographs, receipts, copies of programs, training certification, etc.) is required for this item.
