Labor and Employment Article, Section 5-104(a): The employer did not
furnish employment
and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that
were causing or
likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees:
(a)Date of Violation:On or about 11/12/01
Location:Woodworking Shop
Equipment:"Shopline By Jet" 10" Diameter Tablesaw, Model 8071382
Condition:Employees were exposed to laceration and impalement hazards while
ripping a composite material with a tablesaw due to the absence of anti-
restart devices to prevent unexpected start up of equipment following
power failures and the absence of a spreader device to prevent stock
from squeezing the blade and being thrown back at the operator.
Among others, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this
hazard is to
install an anti-restart device and a spreader.
Abatement documentation (photographs, receipts, copies of programs,
training
certification, etc.) is required for this item.
