Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being burned at the pulpit charge station: (a)At U. S. Steel Fairfield Works - Pulpit / Charge - On or about 10/22/02, the slag / tap window was not bolted down to prevent hot slag and other debris from coming through on the operator. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to replace missing bolts and ensure that the window is securely bolted at all times.
