Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a falling/crushing hazard: a- Dock Area: Employer failed to implement a procedure to ensure that trailers are not removed from the dock door(s) before they are closed and ready to be pulled from the dock. Violation observed on or about 2/28/03. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO FOLLOW THE CURRENT POLICY OF THE LOADER AND DRIVER SIGNING THE B/L IN THE OFFICE TO MAKE SURE THAT THE LOADER HAS COMPLETED THE LOADING.
