Labor and Employment Article, Section 5-104(a): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a)Date of Violation:08/03/01 Location:Kitchen Food Preparation Area Equipment:Groen Hyper Steamer, Model #Hy-6G, Serial #602172YMS Condition:Employees were using a food steamer which had a defective control panel and a door switch, causing the steamer to release steam intermittingly and without warning when the door was opened. (b)Date of Violation:08/08/01 Location:Kitchen Food Preparation Area Equipment:Groen Hyper Steamer, Model #Hy-6G, Serial #602172YMS Condition:Employees were using a food steamer which had a defective control panel and a door switch, causing the steamer to release steam intermittingly and without warning when the door was opened. Among others one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard, is to establish a maintenance plan for kitchen equipment, and remove the equipment from usage until serviced and repaired.
