General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazards of fractured ankles or legs as well as other injuries while jumping down off of trailer beds which were 54 inches above the ground after they had finished working on prefabricated stone panels secured to the trailer bed. A feasible and acceptable method to abate this hazard is to provide a sufficient number of portable steel ladders or stairs that will attach to the steel strips on the sides of the trailers to provide safe mounting and dismounting of the trailers. a) 1806 Harrison Ave., Kearny. Employees were subject to serious physical harm while jumping down off of the trailers several times per day while dismounting after working on the panels. Violation observed on or about 1/29/02.
