Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) On or about October 11, 2001 Advanced Rigging & Logistics permitted employees engaged in hoisting and rigging work to be exposed to struck-by hazards while moving a Gamma Knife without properly protecting polyester roundslings from load edges. Among other feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard include the placement of proper padding to protect the sling. This abatement method is discussed and required in the instruction sheet for this product provided by the manufacturer. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
