Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by automobiles while serviced on a damaged automobile lift: a) Bay #5 - Vehicles were repaired while elevated on an automotive lift that had a broken safety release cable. b) Shop automotive lifts - Periodic inspections were not conducted in accordance with the recommendations of the lift manufacturer in order to ensure reliability and allow the continued safe operation of the lifts. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct these hazards is to operate and inspect automotive lifts in accordance with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) ANSI/ALI ALOIM-2000 Standard for Automotive Lifts. No abatement documentation required for this item.
