General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The Employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: Employees Erecting 49'3" span wood trusses were exposed to the hazards of falls and/or being struck by falling trusses or other materials due to shifting and collapse of the trusses as a result of inadequate lateral top chord bracing, number of nails in bracing connections to trusses, ground bracing and no top chord diagonal bracing. Among other methods one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard would be to follow temporary bracing recommendations of the manufacture, temporary bracing recommendations of a registered professional engineer or the temporary bracing recommendations outlined in the Truss Plate Institute HIB-91 Summary Sheet Commentary and Recommendations for Handling & Bracing Metal Plate Connected Wood Trusses.
