Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: A potential for an exploding general purpose metal grinding wheel due to grinding on the side of the!wheel. (a) Roof of Capellli Building, Two employees were exposed to sever trauma or death from the practice of grinding on the side of the grinding blade of the seven inch hand held grinder. & Abatement note: A Feasible and useful method of abating this hazard, among others, is to acquire a bench grinder equipped with a wheel designed for sharping tools, and instruct employees not to grind on the side of wheel and the consequences of side grinding and an exploding wheels.
