employment and a place of
employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or
likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees:
The employer failed to ensure that a portable circular rip-saw was used in
accordance with
manufacture's operating instructions:
a.At the Granite Fabrication shop, a portable corded Skilsaw, model HD77M,
was
used to cut granite slabs while using a wet diamond wheel.  The employer
had
attached a water line to the point of the cutting operation.  Employees
were
exposed to potential electrocution and shock.
REFERENCE: Skil HD Operating/Safety Instructions page #10: "Warning! This
machine is not
intended to be used with Wet Diamond Wheels.  Using water or other liquid
coolants with this
machine may result in electrocution or shock."
One feasible and acceptable method of abatement would be to ensure
operators reference the
Operating Instruction and adhere to the warnings of the machine
manufacturer.
