employer did not furnish
employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized
hazards that were
causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in
that employees were
exposed to thermal burns, struck-by and trips/fall hazards:
Inadequate illumination for work task performance was not provided for all
work spaces
including the following:
a) Behind, between and on top of the seven Heat Treat Ovens of Bay 1.  An
illumination
level of 9-10 LUX of light was recorded.
b) Behind, between and on top of the eight Heat Treat Ovens of Bay 5B.  An
illumination level of 10-15 LUX of light was recorded.
c) Behind, between and on top of the Zircon System, Old Sand System, Blast
Collectors
and Thermal Reclaim Unit of Bay 4F, an illumination level of 15-20 LUX of
light was
recorded.
AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD TO
CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS:
Increase the amount of light for employee work task performance for
foundry applications in
accordance with ANSI A11.1 - 1973 (Table 1), Practices of Industrial
Lighting.
29 CFR 1903.19(d)(1) requires certification and documentation that the
abatement of the
above violation is complete.
