Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to hazards associated with improper replacement parts. Employer replaced a ball bearing type catch used to ensure leg on automotive hoist remained in place with a standard bolt placed through corresponding holes. Employees exposed to hazards associated with falling equipment loaded with an automobile. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is: Maintain the equipment in accordance with ANSI B153.1-1974, section 6, Maintenance, Use and Inspection and owners manual. 29 CFR 1903.19(d)(1) requires certification and documentation that the abatement of the above violation is complete.
