Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falling load hazards: Frequent and periodic overhead hoist inspections have not been performed on several EC 1008 Coffing brand, 1/2 ton capacity overhead electric hoists located in the plant assembly area of the plant, exposing employees to falling load hazards. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct these hazards would be to have a daily or prior to use hoist inspections that is recommended by ANSI B30.16-1973, Overhead Hoists, to determine that; a)All controls and operating mechanisms for improper operations; daily. b)All hoist safety devices for malfunctions; daily. c)Deterioration of electrical components; daily. d)Lifting hooks for missing safety latches, deformations, or cracks. 29 CFR 1903.19(c)(1) requires certification that the abatement of the above violation is completed.
