Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being crushed by defective auto lifts: (a) Monroe Muffler & Brake, Shop Area: On or about 2/11/03, specific autolift inspection were not up to date. The lift in bay 2 had a defective rolling jack and was not taken out of service. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to repair the defective roller jack and ensure implementation of a lift inspection program that includes a specific inspection for each type of lift at the facility. The program shall follow the manufactures recommendations and ANSI B153.1 1974.
