General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being caught in the conveyor without having the ability to stop it: a) At the Stone Street facility, the conveyor used with the parts washer was not equipped with an emergency stop button or pull cord and offered employee(s) no means of stopping the machine from locations other than the control switch as determined on or about August 29, 2002. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to ensure that emergency stop buttons are located near where employees work or to install an emergency pull cord in accordance with American Society of Mechanical Engineers ASME B20.1-1996. No additional abatement information is needed for this item.
