General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that an employee was exposed to fall hazards by standing on two midrails of an elevated scissor lift platform, and one end of the platform was missing a midrail. Jewel Store Jobsite, 1270 Lake St., Aurora, IL. A New United, Inc. electrician was exposed to a fall of approximately 10 feet when he stood on the midrails of an elevated scissor lift while reaching over his head and through an opening in the store's ceiling panels in order to run some pipe. The chain midrail on one end of the platform was not secured in place. NO DOCUMENTATION OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED FOR THIS ITEM A feasible means of abatement would be to comply with the American National Standards Institute, ANSI A92.6-1999 Standard, for Self-Propelled Elevating Work Platforms.
