Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that an employee was exposed to serious fall hazards as a result of safe working procedures not being utilized. 9/9/02 - An employee elevated, approximately 20 feet above grade by a forklift, was exposed to fall hazards as a result of the following: 1.) The area around the forklift was not marked by cones or other means. 2.) The operator left the forklift controls and did not block the wheels. 9/21/02 - An employee was exposed to fall related hazards while being riding in a cage attached to the mast and forks of a forklift. Among feasible means of abatement would be to comply with the requirements set forth in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) B.56.1-2000 - Safety Standard for Low Lift and High Lift Trucks. Abatement certification required for this item.
