Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish
a place of employment which was free of recognized hazards that were
likely to cause death or
serious physical harm to employees in that the employees were exposed to
inadvertent rolling
over of the vehicle being serviced due to rusty and loose ramps and other
parts of the auto lift.
Feasible means of correcting the hazard is to comply with the manufacturer
and ANSI
requirements, American National Standard B 153.1- 1974:  Safety
Requirements for the
Construction, Care and use of Automotive Lifts.
The company is required to set up a standard procedure for safety use of
the lift and establish
periodic inspection to ensure that all components are in safe operating
conditions.
By Bay 1 & Bay 2 Areas - A 35 AR Semi Hydraulic Hoist Auto Lift  used by
the
employees was not inspected and maintained as required by the lift
manufacturer and American
National Standard B 153.1974. The ramps and other parts of the lift were
falling apart.
