Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that scrap magnesium tooling plate ( MAG AZ31B) was not stored per NFPA 480 "Standard for the Storage, Handling, and Processing of Magnesium Solids and Powders" in that the scrap was (1) stored in combustible cardboard containers (2) one container in the same room as a flammable storage cabinet, and (3) containers stored outside were not covered to prevent the scrap from becoming wet. Among feasible means of abatement would be to comply with the National Fire Protection Association 480 Section 8-6. 1. Store magnesium tooling plate scrap in covered, non-combustible containers. 2. Do not store scrap in the same room as flammable liquids. CERTIFICATION REQUIRED FOR THIS ITEM
