Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: a)On or about July 16, 2002, and at times prior, employees were not protected from injury, where in the tire storage area of the upper shop, the safety latch on the hook of the manual hoist was missing. Among other methods, on feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to remove the hook from service until the latch is repaired or replaced, in accordance with ANSI B30.10 - 1975. Abatement Note: Abatement certification is required for this item (see enclosed "Sample Abatement-Certification Letter").
