Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: a) On or about September 4, 2002, and at times prior, employees were not protected from injury, where in the shop area, the safety latches on the Gorbel 2 ton hoists were in disrepair. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to remove the hooks from service until the latches are repaired or replaced, in accordance with ANSI B30.10. Abatement Note: Abatement certification is required for this item (see enclosed "Sample Abatement-Certification Letter").-Certification
