General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a crushing/striking hazard from the trusses: a) On site - Employees were erecting cold rolled steel trusses into place and were using spacers to hold the trusses. The spacers on approximately 19-21 trusses did not hold and the employers did not follow the engineer of record instructions in the truss and building drawing and brace the chords of the trusses continuously while being erected. The lack of bracing resulted in the collapse of the trusses exposing the employees to the hazard, on or about 3/20/02. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to follow the truss manufacturer's drawings for the erection of the trusses.
