(a)Date of Violation:On or about 04/15/02
Location:Cleaning Department
Condition:Employees cleaned railroad tank cars which contained corrosive
materials including, but not limited to, nitric acid and sulfuric acid. The
nearest eyewash facility was approximately 320' away and required a
two step activation process. There was no emergency shower on site.
Among others, one feasible acceptable abatement method to correct this
hazard is to provide
an ANSI Z358.1 approved eyewash in an acceptable location requiring no
more than 10
seconds travel time and within a travel distance no greater than 30.5
meters (100') from the
hazard.
