General-duty citation text
Labor and Employment Article, Section 5-104(a): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a)Date of Violation:08/23/02 Location:Steam Press Station Condition:Employee was exposed to a wet bulb globe temperature of 31.31$ C (88.36$ F) which exceeded the one-hour time-weighted average (TWA) for acclimatized workers as recommended by The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, given a continuous work regimen for moderate work. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method of abatement to correct this hazard is to develop and implement a heat stress program including, but not limited to, heat stress assessment and monitoring; training of supervisors and of employees in heat stress awareness, signs and symptoms; actions to be taken, such as shortening of physical activity (hourly rest breaks) and water breaks. Abatement documentation (photographs, receipts, copies of programs, training certification, etc.) is required for this item.
