Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a)Worksite at 705 Walnut, Jefferson City, Missouri; rooftop of the Boone County Courthouse. Employees were exposed to an impalement hazard in that the lightning rods/electrodes did not have covers on them as to prevent impalement or puncture wounds. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is covering the protruding ends or the rods with a blunt cap or removal of the rods from the roof. Abatement certification is required for this item-use CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET for this purpose.
