North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety
and Health Act of North Carolina:  The employer did not furnish to
each of his employees  conditions of employment and a place of
employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely
to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that
employees were exposed to:
1)Employer Bailey Farms Inc. failed to provide proper
maintenance on the Mecco brand regulator such that chemical
residue was allowed to build up inside the safety diaphragm
area of the regulator.  The accumulated chemical caused
corrosion to the safety release vent, the adjustment screw,
and the safety diaphragm resulting in employees exposure to
detonation of low pressure cylinder as well as exposure to
methyl bromide/chloropicrin biocide.
Among other methods one feasible and acceptable method of
abatement is to regularly clean and maintain regulator after
each use.
