Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to:
On or about August 27, 2002, employees who worked inside the plating
facility were exposed
to the hazards associated with failing structural members and possible
building collapse.
a)  Deteriorated wooden flooring supporting 13 dip tanks which contained
chemicals including
rinse water and Benco #B17 Industrial Paint Remover.
b)  Electrical components including the wall-mounted breaker box,
electrical outlets, and
electrical cords attached to electrical equipment were exposed to rain
water due to holes in the
metal roof and in the siding of the metal building.
Methods of correction for each hazard include the following:
a)  Repair or replace wooden flooring with materials that will not readily
absorb liquids and can
support the intended load of the 13 dip tanks filled with chemicals.
b)  Repair or replace the failing structural members, including metal
walls and roof, to protect
the interior of the plating facility, including electrical components,
from exposure to water due
to leaks.
