to thermal burn hazards from
steam and hot water.
a.Alabama River Pulp, Power House:
On 10/15/02, employees were exposed to a release of steam and hot water,
when steam from the
deaerator storage tank (DST), a pressure vessel, inadvertently entered the
atmospheric condensate
storage tank (CST), a non-pressure vessel, at a rate which caused the CST
to pressurize and to
rupture.
Among others,feasible and acceptable methods to correct this hazard are:
to install a pressure reducing
valve on the DST that will not allow steam to pass from the DST to the CST
and/or increase the size
of the CST's of the vent pipe.
