Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazards associated with operating powered industrial trucks without use of a seatbelt: a.Baggage Make-up Area, Runway Area - The employer allowed employees to operate industrial trucks used to transport luggage without wearing the seatbelts installed by the manufacturer. This was observed on or about 7-26-2002. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard are: 1. Follow ASME B56.1-1993 Safety Standard for Low and High Lift Trucks and require the usage of an operator restraint system at all times.
