General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment or a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to motor vehicles which were not maintained in accordance with manufacturers' recommendations: (A) The route trucks, such as, but not limited to Route #4 truck, 1992 Chevrolet Cheyenne, VIN#1GCGC24K3NE155259, Idaho vehicle license #1AV8427 had the following defects identified: idler arm, right tie rods, upper control arm bushings, lower ball joints, front brake hoses, front brake rotors, rear brake drums and steering shaft bearing needed to be replaced and the wheels needed to be aligned. Among other methods one feasible and acceptable abatement of this hazard is: (1) Correct the deficiencies noted above for Route #4 truck and identify and correct the deficiencies in all trucks. (2) Develop a comprehensive preventative maintenance program to ensure vehicles are inspected and repaired and that does not allow the vehicles to be used unless the equipment is in good working condition. Note: Abatement certification and supporting documentation are required for this item.
