of the Occupational Safety and
Health Act of 1970:  The employer did not furnish employment and a place
of employment which were free
from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or
serious physical harm to employees.
Location: 359 Jasper Mine Rd, Colchester, VT; warehouse
Violation: The employer did not furnish each of its employees employment
and a place of employment which
are free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause
death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees were exposed to: The Hyster forklift in the
warehouse was not equipped with a
seat belt that would prevent employees from falling out and being crushed
during an upset.
A feasible and acceptable method of abatement to correct this hazard is to
install a seat belt in the forklift and
to ensure that employees wear them as required by ANSI B56.1 consensus
standards for powered industrial
trucks, and ASME B56B1-2000 Safety Standard for Low and High Lift Trucks.d
