Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety & Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that, employees were exposed to being struck and/or impaled from a flying nail: Location: Column lines H and 14, elevation 117'-0", Terminal E, Logan Airport, East Boston, MA. On 08/06/02 an employee was struck in the eye with a flying nail while performing plumbing operations using a nail and a taught string. One method, among others, to abate this condition is to ensure that all plumb lines are tied to fasteners which are secured from displacement.
