Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazards associated with automobile lifts which suddenly drop and are not equipped with safety locking mechanisms, exposing employees to serious crushing injuries. Repair Garage: 1)One side of the alignment lift at the center bay was missing a safety locking mechanism on one side to prevent the lift from dropping exposing mechanics to serious foot or other bodily injuries. The consensus standard for Automotive Lifts is Ansi B153.1. 2)Lift #1 did not have a safety locking mechanism exposing employees to serious foot or other bodily injuries. The consensus standard for Automotive Lifts is Ansi B153.1. 3)Lift #3 had a sealing leak exposing employees to serious foot or other bodily injuries. The consensus standard for Automotive Lifts is Ansi B153.1. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct these hazards is to replace the lifts or to repair the damaged lifts.
