North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a)crushed by hazard from elevated vehicles. Employees raise motor vehicles on Weaver lifts to change tires or perform service on vehicle. Lifts had bent lift arms (bay 2 & 3) and fluid water leakage around lift cylinder (bay 1). [Reference ANSI/ALI ALOIM-2000 section 4.4.4 thru 4.5.] Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to lockout lifts until appropriate repairs can be made.
