Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to: the hazard of falling from the self propelled elevating
work platform.
Location: 2875 Edson Ave.
On or about: 3/11/03
a) Two employees were working in a Haulotte Compact 3368RT self propelled
elevating work
platform. One of the employees climbed the guardrails while reaching over
to an adjacent wall.
AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD TO
CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS:
1) As specified in paragraph 7.11.1 of American National Standard
Institute,
standard
A92.6 1990, Self-Propelled Elevating Work Platforms, personnel shall
maintain a firm
footing on the platform while working thereon.
2) Use a ladder (in accordance with 1926.1053-1060) to access the adjacent
wall.
NOTE: Because abatement of this violation is already documented in the
inspection case
file, the employer need not submit certification or documentation of
abatement of this
violation as normally required by 29 CFR 1903.19.
