Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing hazards: Slitter 10: The wirerope was worn and had broken wires on the Coffing five ton overhung bridge crane. One feasible and acceptable method to reduce/eliminate the hazard is to: 1.Replace the worn, damaged wire rope. 2.Implement a program of monthly, documented wire rope inspections by a qualified individual/company. 3.Conduct annual, documented inspections of the entire overhead crane.
