Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:
The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which
were free from recognized
hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical
harm to employees in that the employees
were being exposed to a fall/thrown hazard to the ground::
a) On site, east side of Building # 6 - An employee was using a Snorkelift
TR37 articulating arm basket to
paint the building without utilizing a body belt and lanyard or a harness
and lanyard while in the basket 15 to
20 feet above the ground, on or about 10/28/02.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this
hazard is to follow the
manufacturer's requirements for the use of body belts and/or harness and
lanyards as indicated on the stickers
of the unit and the requirements of the American National Standards
Institute (ANSI) A 92.5 -1992 Standard
for Boom-Supported Elevating Platforms.
