General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to vehicular traffic: a) Employees at the West Linn Post Office are required to push their pumpkin carts loaded with mail down a ramp and into the Postal Service parking lot to load their vehicles prior to mail delivery. This process exposes those employees to serious injury from being struck by a vehicle. Acceptable and feasible abatement methods would be for those employees to load and unload their vehicles from the loading dock and discontinue using the ramp, or construct an additional ramp away from vehicle traffic.
