connections.
a)  On the port midships of the SBI 551 barge, where eight air hose
connections were
not secured together with retainer clips or lanyards.  These hoses were
used to provide
air to air horns for ventilating cargo tanks during painting operations.
Employees were
exposed to a struck-by hazard.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method for abatement is
to properly
secure the hose couplings with safety clips, retainers or other positive
means to prevent
the couplings from becoming disconnected in accordance with manufacturer
recommendations.
