Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of: Struck by crane load due cracked and broken windows in the cab of the crane causing obstruction of the operates view. a) Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to ensure crane cab windows are maintained in accordance with (ANSI) B30.5 - 1968 Section 5-1.8.1 Crawler, Locomotive and Truck Cranes. Which states: All windows shall be of safety glass or equivalent. Windows shall be provided in the front and on both sides of the cab or operator's compartment for visibility forward and to either side. Visibility forward shall include a vertical range adequate to cover the boom point at all times. DISCLAIMERS: 1) You are not limited to the abatement methods suggested above. 2) The methods explained are general and may not be effective in all cases. 3) The employer is responsible for selecting and carrying out an appropriate method.iate
