General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) Old Gray Batch conveyor did not have emergency stop device. b) Old Gray Batch conveyor is not provided with an audible alarm or a flashing light to warn employees when the conveyor is about to start. A feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to install emergency stop (that is identifiable with signage), and/or guarding along all conveyor systems where employees may come into contact with a rotating part or an ingoing nip-point. Install start-up alarms such as an audible device or flashing light where conveyors start automatically or remotely. Follow the ASME B20.1-1996, Safety Standard for Conveyor and Related Equipment.,
