General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational safety and Health Act of 1970: the employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: a) On or about Oct. 6, 2003, in the facility, employees required to operate order pickers at heights of approximately five feet were exposed to injuries from falls due to the lack of personal fall arrest equipment. Among other methods, acceptable and feasible means of abatements to correct the hazard include: 1. Usage of a body harness and positioning belt. 2. Compliance with the requirements of ANSI/ASME B56. 1-1988 sec. 4.17.1(b) which requires that restraining means such as rails, chains, etc.. shall be in place , or a body belt with lanyard or deceleration device shall be worn by the person(s) on the platform.
