Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not furnish employment
and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause
death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed
to the hazard of falling from an
elevation:
a. On or about August 12, 2006, at site address listed above, employee(s)
were required to work
approximately 15 feet above ground level from wooden crates which were
supported by the forks of a forklift
truck in order to change a display sign's lettering.  The wooden crate was
not secured to the forks or mast of
the forklift truck to provide stability, or to prevent it from moving on
the forks or tilting from side-to-side.
The employees were not provided any means of fall protection. Thereby
employees were exposed to the
recognized hazards associated with falls from unsecured elevated work
areas.
AMONG OTHER METHODS, FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHODS TO CORRECT
THIS HAZARD ARE:
1. Follow the requirements for elevating personnel explained in American
National Standards Institute (ANSI)/
American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) B56.1-2004 Safety Standard
for Low Lift and High Lift
Trucks.d
