Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being crushed by granite and marble slabs: (a) Location - 101 Clematis Avenue, Waltham, MA: On or about 08/05/2003, employees were exposed to crushing injuries when lifting and relocating granite and marble slabs. Among other feasible methods of abatement, acceptable methods to correct the hazard is: (1) Use an alternate storage system for the stone slabs, which would safely secure the slabs so that the lifting device could fit around the slab without employees pulling the stone slab away by hand. (2) Train employees on safe procedures for lifting stone slabs.
