Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to the hazard of being crushed by a merchandise gondola:
(a) Location - CVS Pharmacy, Store 119, Wakefield, MA
On or about 3/24/03, employees were exposed to being crushed by a gondola
loaded with
candy on one side which was being moved by a "Gondola Train".
Among other means, feasible means of abatement would be to:
1.  Do not raise unstable gondolas onto a "gondola train" until they have
been properly
engineered for stabilization as recommended by the manufacturer and do not
attempt to
move shelving that is heavily weighted on one side with little or no
weight on the
opposite side.
2.  Train all employees involved in the gondola move or who work in an
area
where a
gondola move is occurring to perform their work safely and recognize
unsafe conditions
to which they may be exposed.
