On or about 03/16/2004, employees were exposed to the hazard of being
struck by
collapsing steel storage racks, and the material stored on them, while
loading and
unloading pallets of ice cream.
Among other methods, feasible and acceptable means of abatement would
include all of
the following:
1) Repair or replace all damaged metal storage racks in accordance with the
manufacturer's specifications, and ANSI MH16.2 - 1984(R1996).
2) Develop and implement an effective inspection and maintenance policy
for all steel
storage racks.
3) Determine, post and instruct employees on the approved maximum
allowable load
limitations of the racking system, and adhere to those limits.
